Poor-man’s Paddle for testing

PoormanspaddleTonight I decided to make a very simple test paddle..I wonder if I can make some code with it (well some e’s , i’s, t’s and o’s will work) but it is enough to test the K42 CWR. Tested it on my IC-706 and it works!

Oh right contact for Dit’s and left for Dah’s duhhh.

K42 building preparations

I’ve read the building instructions on the K42 CWR and to test at a building stage there is a paddle needed… little problem… I HAVE NOT A PADDLE YET!!

Surfed around the internet and found some home-brew paddle’s, also learned there is no bigger fairytail as a "IAMBIC PADDLE" hihi.

K42 CWR from K1EL ordered

K42_frontThe K42 Keyboard CW reader is ordered! Due to the nice US Dollar rate it’s a nice present for Christmas I thought…. hihi. So it’s a two week shipping period I let you know when I heated up the iron.

Remote control over the Internet…

AmateurI was thinking over this idea for a long time and did not have a sollution for this. Yesterday we were visiting our friends Dina (PA3DGK) and RenĂ© (PA3CQF) and when the XYL’s were talking XYL-talk we were talking the real issues of life :-) . RenĂ© came up with a realy brilliant and simple sollution. The free-to-use-for-personal-use program TeamViewer! It’s easy to setup and it works great! Now I can sit on the kitchen table with my netbook controling the Icom IC-706 connected throug a CT-17 to HRD on my Shack-PC! I look forward to Lunch-break at work next monday hihi.

New Poll – need some advice on this…

Mfj702bHi all. As you know I building up my home-station. To prevent TVI and BCI you can do several things to prevent. One of them is a low pass filter. If I investigate these filters on the reviews on eHam.net and on the Yahoo user groups I also bump into common mode filters.

Mfj915These filters reduces RF signals traveling allong the Coax-lines. Also prevent you from serious RF-burns (when you touch your mike and it tickles you knew…). But what is the best option? I don’t know and also have no experience to this. TVI and BCI … yes! But how to prevent to start with.

If you have experience with these kind of filters please comment and let’s share this. Also respond to the poll so I have some clue wath to do.

Logbook Update

Log_update_15112009 Today after church it was raining. We drank coffee with the family and I went to the shack. Worked a new DXCC (ES4RC – Estonina PSK31) and the band collapsed. Time to update the logbook. I had a pile of QSL-cards wich had to be processed. I use The HamRadioDeluxe logbook so I started to prosess the confirmed QSO’s. Some QSO I could remember, others I did not realy knew I ever worked this DXCC. At the end of the afternoon the pile of cards was gone and the score on DXCC was 60!

The program, HRD, can also give you some statistics, but the Digimode software Digital Master 780 from Simon, HB9DRV,  (it uses the same database for logging!!) makes nice charts… here are some..

Guess what’s my favourite band?

Lu9edNow you all wonder what’s my best DX… well it’s LU9ED, 11.517 km.

As you can see on the map with the plots some continents needs some attention. What will be the score in one year? I will let you know.

Let your fingers do the talking.. brr scarry!

Cwkille Hooked up the old Junker morse key to the Icom IC-706 and tuned into the CW part of 20M. Lots of signals and spotted a nice clear signal from SI3GM, Special Event Call Marconi Nobel Prize 100 years.

A little rusty on the key I answered and he came back with my call, and 5nn. Well give him his signal report and stopped shaking behind the key’s. Sweatty hands! But what a fun!

Logged the station and send the eQSL. Time for a cup of tea I would say!
